The Quest Pro series may be dead as Meta struggles to stay in the VR game

When it comes to advancements in immersive technology, few products have been as anticipated or hyped as the Quest Pro series from the virtual reality gaming company Meta. But unfortunately, as of June 2020, Meta has announced that the series will be discontinued due to continuing struggles with its parent company, Silicon Valley Investments.

This marks a major setback for virtual reality gaming, and for Meta especially. The Quest Pro series, which was first announced in December of 2019, was seen as a way for Meta to make a big splash in the VR gaming markets. The Pro series was designed to be the most powerful VR headset ever, with features such as 8K resolution, 120 FPS motion tracking, and automatic IPD adjustment making it one of the most advanced systems available.

However, due to its parent company’s financial troubles, Meta has been unable to deliver on the Quest Pro series, as well as other products in its roadmap. This was a major blow to virtual reality gaming, as the Quest Pro series could have provided a significant boost to the industry.

Despite the setback, Meta has vowed to stay in the VR game, and has several projects in the works. The company is working on a “stand-alone” headset that will be powered by a self-contained processor, rather than relying on external components like a desktop-based machine. The company has also revealed plans to create an augmented reality headset, as well as improve upon existing hardware.

Nevertheless, the death of the Quest Pro series is certainly a blow to virtual reality gaming, and it remains to be seen what other products Meta will produce to stay competitive in the industry. For now, however, it looks like Meta will have to rely on its existing hardware and software offerings to remain a major player in the VR marketplace.
