Ubisoft, the popular video game company, recently ran into a bit of controversy when they announced plans to delete inactive accounts and certain information associated with them. This caused a stir among the gaming community, with many gamers voicing concerns over their years of hard-earned in-game progress potentially being wiped from existence.
However, Ubisoft has since issued a statement that allays some of these fears. “We want you to rest assured that all of your accounts and the content associated with them, such as your Uplay games, will be unaffected by this process,” the company said in a statement.
In other words, Ubisoft won’t be deleting your accounts full of games despite the initial perception. Rather, it’s an effort to streamline the process of managing customer data. Ubisoft states that all affected information, such as usernames, avatars, and so on, will remain stored and available to owners when they choose to log back in.
Ubisoft also clarified that it will be deleting services which have remained inactive since mid-2018 for legal reasons. This includes deactivating services, such as Uplay, which won’t impact the games users have purchased from their catalog. All purchases and games remain safe and yours.
Given the uproar that followed Ubisoft’s original announcement, the clarification is sure to provide peace of mind to its customers. It’s clear that the gaming company takes its customers’ data very seriously, so that no one needs to fear that their hard-earned progress is at risk of disappearing. Ultimately, this should make players more confident that their gaming progress is secure and will remain intact going forward.
