Microsoft is taking steps to no longer lock down vital security logs within a subscription-based service. This news comes after a recent investigation by the BBC which highlighted the fact that Microsoft, through a service called Azure Active Directory Premium, was charging organisations a $57-per-user monthly fee to access key security log information.
Upon further investigation Microsoft discovered that this operation had become increasingly confusing for customers trying to access the security logs. So they have decided to make the security logs available by default for all customers who have Active Directory licenses.
The head of Microsoft’s security research and development team, Brian Norton, said that by making these security logs available they will be able to provide a much better service to their customers. He also noted that Microsoft had been working on this issue for some time and that the new system would provide customers with better access and control over the key security protocols and data.
He also mentioned that customers will be able to use the security logs to monitor and manage the security of their systems, including the ability to analyse and detect potential threats to their networks.
Microsoft have made assurances that customers will not need to pay any additional fees to access these logs. They have also introduced a new service which will allow customers to securely store their log information.
This move by Microsoft is certainly a welcome one as it should help customers protect their networks from potential malicious activity and ensure that the security logs are accessible and protected. It should also mean that customers are able to monitor and manage the security of their systems more efficiently and effectively. It’s clear that Microsoft are committed to providing the best possible service to their customers and that this move should go a long way towards helping them achieve this goal.
