Intel Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Swan made a bold prediction recently: “We’re going to build AI into every platform we build.” Intel is the world’s largest chip maker and Swan’s announcement has been hailed as a historic step in the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI).
In simpler terms, what he means is that Intel plans to make sure that any technology they produce will be equipped with AI technology from the start, without requiring customers to buy an AI-enabled device or install AI software themselves. This is a major development for the industry, as it means that many, if not most, types of technology will soon be infused with AI-certified components.
Not only does this announcement mean an easier AI experience for users, but it also opens up new possibilities for new and existing devices. AI offers businesses and consumers, heightened experience, improved efficiency, and an opportunity to tap into emerging technologies. For example, the use of AI in autonomous vehicles could greatly reduce the number of accidents due to better data-driven decision-making, while AI-infused health applications could help diagnose diseases in earlier stages more swiftly.
Beyond the potential applications, Intel’s AI advancement will also be critical for job growth. Intel estimates that up to 12,000 new jobs in the USA alone could be created as a direct result of this initiative. This will both improve the job market as well as open up opportunities for an additional 12,000 people with the skills required to work with AI-infused technology.
As technology becomes increasingly intertwined with AI, Intel’s move will no doubt pay off big in the long run. By building AI into every platform they build, Intel will be setting a new trend that will likely follow in the coming years.
