With Facebook users receiving a piece of the $725 million settlement from a class action lawsuit that was brought forward against the popular social media platform, the deadline is looming close. It’s been almost a year since the settlement was announced and Facebook users have just a month left to get their own share of the settlement from the class action.
The class action lawsuit was originally brought forward in 2015 by five Facebook users who alleged that Facebook unlawfully used their personal information for their own gain. This included using user data for targeted advertising purposes without user consent.
The settlement was made up of $550 million in cash for roughly 160 million Facebook users affected by the lawsuit and $175 million in lawyers’ fees and expenses. If you’re a Facebook user and you’re eligible, you’ll need to submit your claim before March 2, 2021 to be eligible for a piece of the settlement money.
The amount of money that each claimant will receive will depend on the total number of claims submitted and will not exceed $500. Even if you are eligible for the cash settlement, it’s important to understand that the money is likely to be split up fairly evenly amongst claimants. Therefore, it’s possible that the amount you receive will be less than $500.
If you haven’t claimed your piece of the settlement money yet, it’s important to do so as soon as possible. You can file a claim online, by mail or via telephone. In addition, it is important to note that the settlement deadline is a final and no additional extensions will be granted.
If you believe you’re eligible for the Facebook settlement money, now is the time to act. With only one month left until the deadline, it’s important to act fast to ensure you have the best chance of receiving some money. With a large amount of money on the line, you don’t want to miss out on your chance to get your piece of the settlement.
