‘Rhymer’ Combines

In a unique and unexpected combination of Scotland’s traditional ballads and alien elves, Scottish artist Chaz Reddy has created a hybrid style of music called ‘Rhymer’. This innovative genre of music weaves together traditional songs with a sci-fi narrative of a world being explored by elf-like aliens.

The idea for the project came from Reddy’s personal experience of a Scottish hymn that she heard in church as a young girl. She was inspired to explore the intersection between Scotland’s traditional music and alien culture, creating a truly unique and interesting mixture.

Rhymer is made up of several distinct components: original Scottish ballads, cutting-edge electronica, minimalist strings, and the eerie vocal delivery of Reddy’s elf-like aliens. Reddy’s choice of instruments and collaboration with other musicians results in music that is both futuristic and ancient.

In an interview, Reddy shared that she wanted to “combine music and storytelling in an unexpected way and to explore Scotland’s traditional music within a fantasy world.” This exploration is certainly successful in Rhymer. The combination of the traditional and the futuristic in the songs creates a unique medley that is quite unlike any other artist’s.

The characters of the musical narrative, the elf-like aliens, also bring their own unique flavor to the music. They are presented as explorers in a foreign world, and Reddy’s lyrics and melodies effectively capture this sense of curiosity and awe.

By combining both traditional and modern styles, Rhymer offers a truly unique sound. It is a refreshing take on Scottish music, and the combination of traditional ballads and aliens makes it particularly interesting to the listener. For fans of both Scotland’s traditional music and sci-fi fantasy, Rhymer is a must-listen!
