Spaceplan, the acclaimed idle clicker game that skyrocketed to the top of the charts in 2016, has undergone a massive graphical overhaul. Its developer, Jake Hollands, made the decision to remaster the entire game after criticizing its pixelated look, which he deemed to be “too much.”
Hollands explained the remaster process in an interview with Eurogamer, saying that he had “always wanted to make the game look nicer”, but that he only had three months to make the original game. Despite the short time frame, Hollands recounts, the game was an instant success, reaching the top of the App Store and Steam charts.
So why is Hollands now undergoing the remaster process? He explains that “it wasn’t the easiest game to look at.” He goes on to explain that the current graphical style of Spaceplan is “closer to what [he] wanted”. Now that the game has a more modern look, Hollands hopes that more people will be intrigued by the game and that it will continue to be popular.
The remastered game includes improved graphics, an increased resolution, a wider color palette, and smoother curves. Players will also be able to play with a range of new options. Plus, the game also features a new soundtrack and cutscenes.
Furthermore, some of the game mechanics have also been refined, such as the way the levels work and the game’s difficulty curve. Hollands also revamped the game’s interface, making it more intuitive and easy to use.
Hollands is confident that the remaster will be worth it, and many Spaceplan fans seem to agree. With its improved graphics and gameplay, Spaceplan looks to be an even better game than before. It’s just another example of how developers and publishers can return to the drawing board and give their games a much-needed facelift.
