Spider-Man 2 is the highly-anticipated sequel to Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games’, Marvel’s Spider-Man. Players will return to the world of Spider-Man but this time with more villains, improved web swinging action, and an all-new Peter Parker narrative.
The release date of the game was revealed during PlayStation 5’s Future of Gaming event on June 11th. Spider-Man 2 will be released on November 4th, 2021, a little earlier than expected for a game so late in the PS5’s cycle.
The game’s trailer opened with remastered gameplay footage from the original Marvel’s Spider-Man, hinting at a potential Peter Parker origin story. What we know is that Jameson is the mayor of New York City with Spider-Man as mayor-elect. It is likely that the sequel will toggle between the past and present, with the prequel part filling out details on Peter’s past.
Gameplay-wise, Insomniac looks to be significantly revamping what made Marvel’s Spider-Man fun. With “extreme ground and air combat” that highlights Spider-Man’s agility and wall running, players can look forward to a more fluid combat experience. The new traversal seems to incorporate a few elements from the original as well. Street and building travel will feature an updated web-slinging experience, with more responsive motion.
The sequel will also feature more villains, more customization options, and more tech upgrades for Peter. Players can also look forward to discovering more of New York City’s secrets with more areas from the Marvel universe available to explore.
With Spider-Man 2 set for release in November of this year, fans are no doubt excited for what’s to come. The game promises to take full advantage of the PS5 hardware and with its improved combat, traversal and customizable suits, Spider-Man 2 is sure to be one of the best Spider-Man titles yet.
