It has been a long time coming, and as hype builds surrounding the upcoming Star Wars installment, Eclipse is making sure it has an exciting story of its own. Eclipse is the newest project set in the iconic Star Wars universe, but it is no simple sequel nor prequel – it is an independent standalone set within the galaxy far, far away. So far, very little is known about the film, so here’s what we do know about Star Wars Eclipse.
The first thing that’s been confirmed about the project is that the plot will focus on a group of characters called the “Tired”, an outcast group of rogues living on the edges of the Star Wars universe. This story seems to be particularly interested in their “grey zone” lives, which involve protecting themselves and their loved ones from the effects of war and conflict. The audience will witness how they manage to survive without compromising their own moral codes, and this setup offers something totally new to the franchise.
In addition to the new characters, Eclipse will include a number of familiar faces as well. The main protagonist is confirmed to be none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi, who will be played by Ewan McGregor. Other characters from the original trilogy, prequels, animated series, and spin-offs have been reported as appearing in the movie, suggesting that Eclipse will have quite the sprawling narrative.
Finally, production for the movie has already begun in full swing. Award-winning director J.J. Abrams is at the helm and will be helming a fully CGI modernized world for the epics grand finale. Additionally, writer and producer Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Fugitive Pieces) will also be involved.
With Eclipse set to release sometime in 2022, it’s safe to assume more details about the project will emerge as the years progress. Until then, we can only wait with excited anticipation and appreciate the diverse and complex offerings the Star Wars universe has shown us thus far.
