With the recent disappearance of 2018’s Sea of Thieves, fans of Rare have been wondering what the company is cooking up next. Fortunately, it’s safe to say we have an answer—Far and wide, a new IP, was revealed as “Everwild”. The announcement left a lot of questions unanswered but there are a few tidbits we have pieced together.
Everwild is a rare IP, showing a adventure game that feature a unique art style, featuring a lush surrounding environment that looks more like something from a ethereal fantasy land. The game was unveiled with an announcement trailer, filled with colorful characters, breathtaking animations, and mysterious landscapes—all of which set the hype train on fire. The title creates a sense of mystery, as its title has no specific meaning as of yet.
Aside from the trailer, the only other snippet of information released is a blog post written by developer, Joe Neate, offering a few more details about the game. Neate states that Everwild will feature an “emergent, living, breathing world,” and promises players a chance to experience a new experience—possibly similar to Sea of Thieves—where encounters and moments are unique each time.
The most exciting bit of news for now, though, is that the game will have a focus on exploration. Neate states that Everwild will be about discovery, a chance to explore and reveal the unknown in the world around you. Players will also have the opportunity to connect with other players and the game will feature “unforgettable journeys”.
With all that being said, it’s still a ways before we get our hands on Everwild. The game is still very much in its early stages of development and it’s likely we won’t see anything concrete until late 2020 or 2021. That being said, the few details we have right now paint an exciting picture for the future of Rare’s IP. If everything goes according to plan, we could have another incredible gaming experience on our hands. Until then, we’ll keep an eye on any news that comes regarding Everwild and wait patiently for its release.
