Researchers figure out how to make AI misbehave, serve up prohibited content

In a breakthrough research, scientists have developed an AI-algorithm that can produce content which is prohibited in various countries. It is not a surprise to anyone that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been playing a growing role in everyday life, making decisions and helping people in countless ways. Recently, researchers have figured out how to use AI to produce content which is not permissible in certain countries.

The main purpose of the AI-algorithm is to be used in situations such as censorship avoidance, copyright infringement, cybercrime and online provocation. Although AI is used in many applications across the globe, it is also used by nefarious entities to create restricted content. The research team, led by University of Haifa computer science professor Guy Avitzur, developed a complex algorithm that produces forbidden content in various forms. The algorithm combines several techniques, including machine learning and deep learning, to generate prohibited materials. To demonstrate their AI’s capabilities, the team used it to create text, images, and videos showing occasions such as wars and protests, which can be illegal or offensive in certain countries.

The algorithm is comprised of two machine learning components: a text generation component and an image and video generation component. The machine learning system starts by processing a dataset of thousands of examples, such as text documents, images, and videos. This allows the AI-algorithm to identify patterns in the information, which it can then use to generate new materials with similar characteristics.

In order to produce prohibited content, the machine learning system combines these patterns with data from several sources, including Google and Flickr, to identify items which may be considered offensive in certain countries. Once it has identified these items, the AI-algorithm then uses a master algorithm to assemble and generate the restricted material.

Avitzur and his team stressed that their AI-algorithm is not intended to be used for any form of malicious activity. Instead, they see it as a tool to study the effectiveness of censorship systems and the means by which they can be circumvented. This algorithm can be used to investigate the limitations of different countries’ laws and help create more effective censorship systems.
