Twitch streamer’s PS5 giveaway sparks Union Square ‘riot’

On April 1st, 2021, popular Twitch streamer ‘KevonDay’ sparked a real-life “riot” when he attempted to give away a Playstation 5 in New York’s Union Square. KevonDay, who boasts over 150,000 followers, made the announcement of the giveaway on his Twitch stream, saying that anyone who wanted to participate in the PS5 giveaway simply needed to meet him at Union Square.

This announcement, however, prompted a huge response with hundreds of people reportedly showing up to claim the Playstation 5 prize. People began to push and shove and soon law enforcement was called to restore order in the Square.

While the giveaway was intended to be a fun event, it was marred by chaos as people attempted to get to KevonDay and the PS5. Although no serious injuries were reported, the chaos of the event prompted many to question the safety of the giveaway.

In the wake of the incident, KevonDay issued an apology to those who were affected by the incident, saying that he never intended for things to get out of hand and that he was genuinely surprised at the response to the giveaway. He also pledged to do better in the future if any similar events were to take place.

Although the Union Square incident may be seen as a setback on the part of the Twitch streamer, it’s also likely to be a lesson for future streamers looking to give away prizes during their livestreams. While giveaways can be a fun and exciting part of the streaming experience, they can also be an unexpected source of chaos if not properly planned. Moving forward, it is important for streamers to ensure that their giveaways are conducted as safely as possible to ensure that everyone involved can have a fun and positive experience.
