In a move that could change laptop gaming forever, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced plans to bring desktop-level RTX 3060 graphics performance to laptops with their upcoming RDNA 3 mobile GPUs.
The RDNA 3 mobile GPU is based on AMD’s new 7nm process and features up to 16GB of GDDR6 memory. It promises over a 50 percent increase in performance compared to its predecessors and will also include new features like support for ray tracing, Variable Rate Shading and AI acceleration to improve gaming and productivity.
With this new technology, AMD is aiming to bring desktop gaming experience to laptops. Going beyond just the RT 3060 performance, AMD is also saying that the RDNA 3 Mobile GPU has the power to deliver “up to 80 percent” the performance of the RTX 3080 desktop GPU.
Gaming laptops have become increasingly popular over the last few years, but the lack of RTX 3060 desktop-level performance has limited their potential. This new announcement from AMD shows that that limitation is about to change.
What makes this announcement even more impressive is that AMD is already saying that the RDNA 3 Mobile GPUs will be available in laptops as early as 2021. This means that laptop gamers won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the new technology.
While these new mobile GPUs will no doubt be expensive, they will be well worth it for those serious about gaming on their laptops. With the increased performance of RDNA 3, combined with AMD’s new features, gaming on laptops will never be the same.
