Report: Apple buys every 3 nm chip that TSMC can make for next-gen iPhones and Macs

In a major move, reports suggest Apple has secured exclusive access to TSMC’s latest 3-nanometer chip production. According to Digitimes and other reports, Apple has purchased all the 3nm chips TSMC provides for upcoming iPhones and Mac devices.

This move comes ahead of a widespread roll-out of 3nm chips expected to be used in many Intel and AMD processors. The move will give Apple an advantage over competitors when it comes to their next-gen iPhones and Macs, as they will be able to offer faster devices, more efficiently and with better performance than the competition.

The 3nm chips are reportedly based on TSMC’s advanced N3P technology, which uses extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography to create even smaller features in the chips. This gives them a significant performance improvement over existing 7nm chips, at the same power levels. They are also expected to be more efficient, offering more performance for less energy.

The report also suggests that while Apple is the only customer for now, TSMC’s 3nm chips will be available to other customers in 2022. Apple’s push towards exclusively using 3nm chips will also force other companies to consider using similar chips in their own mobile and laptop products, in order to stay competitive.

It’s unclear what long-term impact this exclusive deal between Apple and TSMC will have on the mobile and laptop market. However, the report does suggest that Apple is working on bringing even faster and more efficient devices at competitive prices to the market soon. For consumers, this is great news that could mean faster, more efficient devices to choose from in the near future.
