App Store payment rules won’t change as Apple’s battle with Epic Games heads to Supreme Court

As Apple and Epic Games prepare to go head-to-head in the Supreme Court case over the App Store’s payment rules, it’s looking increasingly likely that those rules won’t be changing anytime soon.

The case centers around Epic Games’ demand that the Apple App Store strip out its own payment system and allow consumers to purchase items directly from the company. Apple, of course, has refused to do so, citing the fact that it needs to maintain control over its own payment infrastructure which is key to how the company does business.

It looks like the courts may side with Apple in the battle, with the App Store payment rules remaining largely unchanged. This is due to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court which determined that Apple has the right to require its own payment system in the App Store, even if it means excluding third-party payment systems.

The ruling is a big win for Apple and could mean that the App Store’s payment rules remain firmly in place for the foreseeable future. It also means that companies like Epic Games won’t be able to make money from the App Store in the way that they had hoped.

The case has seen a lot of attention in recent months, as it has raised the issue of whether Apple’s exclusive payment infrastructure within the App Store is anti-competitive or even monopolistic. Apple has argued that its system is in place to ensure that the quality of the apps and services available in the App Store remain of the highest quality, which is something that consumers rightfully expect.

Ultimately, the case will go a long way towards setting a precedent for how other companies may interact with the App Store in the future. But for now, Apple looks likely to retain control over its App Store payment system and it does not look like the payment rules will be changing anytime soon.
