Netflix Game Controller App Randomly Sprouts Up in the App Store

It looks like Netflix may be entering the gaming industry, thanks to a surprise controller app that recently showed up in the App Store. The “Netflix Game Controller” was first spotted by app researcher Kacper Gad, who tweeted a screenshot of the mysterious app on his Twitter page.

The Netflix Game Controller app was made available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV users and, although there were no details available on what game the controller could be used for, the name tells it all – this app has been designed for use with Netflix games.

Given Netflix’s big push into the gaming industry with two new projects, The Cuphead Show and the interactive game Bandersnatch, it seems likely that the Netflix Game Controller is designed for use with those games.

The controller appears to be well-fitted for the new interactive gaming experiences that Netflix is offering, with a left joystick and two buttons on the right, as well as additional buttons at the top. According to Gad, the app also features a “Netflix” button that will take the user back to the streaming service.

At this point, it remains unclear whether the Netflix Game Controller will be available for Android users, as well as what other game titles the controller might work with. It also isn’t clear if consumers will need to buy the app, or if they can use it for free.

One thing seems certain, though – Netflix is serious about gaming, and it’s ready to prove it. With the future of Netflix games looking brighter than ever, it looks like the Netflix Game Controller could be the first of many gaming apps that the streaming giant will soon offer.
