Splinter Cell remake – everything we know so far

Ubisoft has been teasing fans of the beloved Splinter Cell franchise with the promise of a remake for some time now. After months of speculation and anticipation, we finally have some concrete information about the remake. Here’s a look at what we know so far.

The first major announcement about the Splinter Cell remake came in February 2018, when Ubisoft revealed that they had acquired the rights to the series and would be remaking the classic game. Since then, we’ve heard little snippets of information about the game, from its developing team to some of the features Ubisoft is planning to add.

The game will be developed by Ubisoft Toronto, a studio founded in 2009 that has already overseen development on Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs and Rainbow Six titles. The team is reportedly working on a version of the original game, with updated visuals, improved player mechanics and an enhanced story.

The updated visuals will come from a new graphics engine, which will give the game a more modern look and feel. The game will also feature improved destruction mechanics, allowing players to interact with the environment. Additional features include improved artificial intelligence, a better variety of enemies, and more reactive environments.

Ubi-Soft has also teased the possibility of future Splinter Cell titles, hinting that they could be developed and released after the remake. It’s unclear if the franchises first-person shooter spin-off, Splinter Cell: Conviction, will be getting a remake or if there will be a brand new Splinter Cell game released to coincide with the remake.

Ubisoft Toronto has yet to announce an official release date for the remake, but given the amount of work being put into the game, fans can expect to experience the original Splinter Cell game with a modern twist sometime in 2019. It’s shaping up to be one of the biggest and most exciting Splinter Cell titles yet, so while fans may have to wait a while to get their hands on it, it will surely be worth it.
