In a recent TV interview, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and founder of Facebook has declared that the fight with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk should finally come to an end. In the interview, Zuckerberg blamed Musk for dodging plans on how to move forward.
The dispute between Musk and Zuckerberg, who are both pioneers of tech innovations, started after Musk expressed his concerns over the risks involved with artificial intelligence (AI). He raised questions about the potential dangers that AI could pose as it continues to be developed. Zuckerberg subsequently criticised Musk’s claims, arguing that they did not reflect the reality of AI and its predicted impacts.
The CEO of Facebook instigated the Peace Plan in March, after a rather heated conversation between the executives. During the Peace Plan, Zuckerberg suggested that, together, he and Musk could find solutions to how the tech industry should use and develop AI. However, the plan soon fell apart after Musk failed to respond to Zuckerberg’s invitations for him to enter into negotiations.
Despite expressing his commitment to move forward from the fight, Zuckerberg has called for more control over AI, arguing that companies should work together to ensure that AI is developed responsibly and with the right safety measures in place. He has made it clear that he has no intention of working with Elon Musk in the future, as he believes that continuing the dialogue would only lead to more disagreement.
Zuckerberg addressed the press, saying: “We all have to work together to make sure that AI is developed in a responsible and ethical way. I’m sorry that the effort to do so, with Elon Musk, didn’t go the way I had hoped it would. But it’s important to refocus on what we can all do to make sure AI is deployed in a way that benefits us all.”
The Facebook CEO has also urged politicians to draft much needed policies, noting that the current climate is crucial for the development of AI. Increasing regulations and guidelines could help reduce accidents and protect the public from any potential harm.
It’s certainly time for the two tech billionaires to move on and come to an understanding about the future of AI and its potential risks. Rather than expressing disagreements, they should be encouraging collaboration between the tech industry and governments so that we can make the best of AI without exposing ourselves to possible harm.
