Tabs are coming to Notepad in future Windows 11 update – but what’s next?

Microsoft recently announced that tabs will be coming to Notepad in an upcoming Windows 11 update. This is an interesting move, as it marks the first major update to Notepad since Windows 95, when it was first introduced as a basic text editor. With tabs, users can easily switch between multiple files within one Notepad window, rather than having to open multiple Notepad windows.

This update could be the start of a series of improvements to Notepad over time. Since it’s a basic text editor, there’s plenty that can be added to make Notepad even more useful. For example, Notepad could introduce the ability to customize fonts, colors and line spacing, giving users greater control over the look of their documents. Additionally, there could even be support for more advanced features, such as syntax highlighting and support for different programming languages. Adding features like these could make Notepad a viable option for users who need a lightweight, but powerful, text editor.

Microsoft could also look to add a range of productivity features to Notepad. For example, users could have more control over the appearance and layout of their documents, such as the ability to add headers and footers. Alternatively, Notepad could be integrated with other Windows applications, such as Outlook and Word, so that users can quickly open or save documents to or from Notepad with a single mouse click.

It’s important to note that the addition of tabs to Notepad is only the first step in bringing Notepad up to speed with other modern text editors. Nevertheless, this update proves that Microsoft is ready to invest in Notepad and bring it up to date with today’s text editor. We can’t wait to see what other features Microsoft will add to Notepad in the coming future.
