In a bold move to save a critical component of their fleet, Starfish Space successfully brought their Otter Pup Servicing Vehicle (OPSV) back from the brink of death.
The OPSV is an autonomous underwater vehicle capable of performing a variety of tasks, ranging from monitoring and maintaining underwater oil pipelines to collecting environmental data. Last month, the OPSV suffered an unexpected technical malfunction and stopped responding to commands. Without the necessary repairs and maintenance, the vehicle would have been rendered completely useless.
Fortunately, Starfish Space was able to jury-rig a system that allowed them to regain limited control of the vehicle. The team then used this technology to direct the OPSV back to their headquarters, where it was received by a waiting team of engineers. After thoroughly examining the vehicle, the engineers determined that the malfunction had been caused by a wiring issue.
The team was able to quickly resolve the issue, and the OPSV is now operational again and ready to perform all of its intended tasks. According to Starfish Space spokesperson Will Summers, “This was a close call, but we were lucky. With the help of our engineers, we were able to bring the vehicle back from the brink of death.”
The successful repair of the OPSV serves as a testament to the skill and ingenuity of the Starfish Space team. Their quick thinking and technical prowess enabled them to save a valuable asset and keep their operations up and running. Starfish Space is now looking ahead to the future and continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible in underwater vehicle technology.
