The beloved Valve title, Team Fortress 2, has potentially been leaked, revealing weapons, maps and more. After an interesting find on a YouTube user’s account, the Team Fortress 2 community has been abuzz with the possibility of an incredible trove of hidden data.
Through an investigation, it has been discovered that an animation file in the game contains the remnants of what appears to be four scrapped weapons, along with three beta maps which were being tested when the game first released in 2007. It appears that the plans were immediately scraped at the time, but the corresponding data remained stored in the game files.
The weapons, which had not been seen before, include a rocket-powered chainsaw and a wave-particle dual gun which could provide continuous fire. While the guns didn’t make it to the final version of the game and have since been forgotten, the information found in the animation file has allowed for a brief peak into Valve’s plans.
Furthermore, the maps were also ported into Team Fortress 2, meaning that they could still be used in a modified version of the game. Even though they were never released, the maps hint at what Valve had in store for the game. A mountain-based map featuring a large canyon, an assault map with a castle and a rainy cityscape are included among the scrapped content.
Since the leak surfaced, a variety of speculations and theories have come up as to why Valve never released these weapons or maps. Despite the community’s attempts to explain it, the true reasons behind the decision are unknown. All we can be certain of is that with this incredible find, an entirely new realm of possibilities has opened up for Team Fortress 2.
