Nintendo Switch vs Nintendo Switch Lite: is bigger really better?

When Nintendo released the Switch Lite, many wondered if bigger was better when it comes to the Switch line of consoles. The original Switch console, released in 2017, had a huge fan base and was met with overall praise. However, with the Switch Lite, not only did it get more affordable, but it got smaller, more portable, and become available in many more colors. But which one should gamers choose? In this article, we’ll compare the two consoles and see where they differ and if size really does matter.

The most obvious difference between the two consoles is the size. The original Switch measures around 4 inches wide, 9.4 inches long and 0.55 inches thick while the Switch Lite measures 3.6 inches wide, 8.2 inches long and .55 inches thick. That’s a noticable difference. With the Switch Lite being smaller, it’s also much lighter than the original Switch which weighs 0.88 pounds vs the Switch Lite’s 0.61 pounds.

Another major difference between the two consoles is the design. The original Switch can be taken apart or used in the dock to be played on the TV. The Switch Lite, however, is a handheld-only device and cannot be taken apart or connected to the dock. This means that the screen size is smaller on the Switch Lite as it doesn’t have the capacity to expand to a larger size with a docked option.

When it comes to the controls, both Switch consoles have the same features but there are a few key differences. The Joy-Cons on the original Switch are slightly bigger than the ones on the Switch Lite and they also attach to the console differently. While the Joy-Cons can be taken apart with the original Switch, this isn’t an option with the Switch Lite.

Finally, there’s the battery life to consider. The original Switch offers higher battery life than the Switch Lite with its 4,310 mAh battery compared to the Switch Lite’s 3,570 mAh battery. This means that the Switch Lite will offer less battery life than the original Switch console.

So, which one should you get? Ultimately, it’s up to you and your gaming needs. The original Switch offers more features and is more versatile but the Switch Lite is a great option for those looking for a smaller, more portable console. If you’re looking for a console that can be played on the TV, then the original Switch is the one for you but if portability is more important, then the Switch Lite is probably the better choice. Either way, you’re getting a great console with a lot of features so it really comes down to what’s right for you.
