Elon Musk’s $8 Twitter Blue subscription is coming back with phone number verification and a higher price on iOS

Elon Musk has announced that the much-hyped paid Twitter subscription feature, Twitter Blue, is coming back and will be available on iOS. Primarily rolled out in Canada earlier this year, users who opt in will have property access to a number of added features, such as the ability to undo tweets, customize the app’s color scheme, and rearrange the app’s icon layout. While initially priced at $8 per month, the subscription is expected to have a higher price on iOS than the current $1.99-a-month rate for Android users.

In addition to changes in price, Musk has revealed that the new version of Twitter Blue will also require phone number verification for users. According to the tech mogul, this will ensure that the feature remains exclusive to those who really want it and cut down on fraudulent activity. Twitter has also stated that those who choose not to give their phone number will still be able to access the core version of the app.

Undoubtedly, this step forward for Twitter will leave many users feeling both excited for the feature and curious about the new changes it will bring. While it might be an annoyance for those users with privacy concerns, the additional security may be a plus to those who actively engage with the app and appreciate Twitter’s efforts to reduce fraud.

Overall, the choice to price the subscription differently depending on platform may be off-putting to some of Twitter’s 1.3 billionusers. However, the decision to introduce phone number verification demonstrates the company’s commitment to keeping their platform and payment system secure. People who sign up to the platform need only to be aware that the cost of Twitter Blue is higher than initially expected and will require further verification.
