The latest version of iOS, iOS 16.3, is giving users the ability to add an extra layer of security to their Apple accounts. With this latest update, users can now use a physical security key when logging in to their Apple accounts.
Physical security keys, or hardware-based two-factor authentication (2FA), are devices that users insert into their computers to provide an extra layer of security to their online accounts. By using a physical key to log in to an account, hackers will have more difficulty accessing the user’s data.
The implementation of this feature with iOS 16.3 provides Apple users with increased protection against cybercriminals. With the addition of physical security keys, users can now rest assured that their accounts are more secure and protected.
The physical key option is available on all iOS devices running iOS 16.3 or higher. To use it, users need to purchase a compatible hardware security key. Currently, the compatible hardware keys are YubiKey, Thetis FIDO U2F, and Feitian FIDO U2F.
Once a user has purchased a security key, they can set it up with their Apple ID. First, the user should go to the Apple ID website and select the “Security and Privacy” tab. On the page, the user should select “Verify Your Identity”, and then “Register a Security Key”. The user will then need to insert the security key into their device’s USB port. After the key has been registered, the user can start using it for secure logins.
The use of physical security keys for logging into Apple accounts is an excellent way to improve user security. With the adoption of physical security keys, Apple users can now rest easy knowing that their accounts are more secure.
