It has been a long wait for Tesla Cybertruck fans but unfortunately, it looks like it will be even longer. On Thursday, people who ordered the Cybertruck began receiving notification emails that the production of the electric truck won’t begin until 2021.
This announcement comes a just a month after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he was aiming to begin production in late 2020 and ship the first vehicles within the first six months of 2021. This means that the highly anticipated Cybertruck is at least 6 months behind schedule.
The delay is due to difficulties encountered by Tesla in producing parts for the new truck. In an emailed statement, Tesla’s spokesperson said, “Due to design, validation, and production requirements, we have adjusted our production plan for Cybertruck to start in 2021.”
The setback may lead some Tesla customers to place their orders with Ford’s electric truck, the F-150 EV, or even Rivian. Both companies are expected to enter the market ahead of the Cybertruck.
The production delay of the Cybertruck is disappointing news for Tesla fans, but it’s important to remember that the truck will eventually make its debut, likely with some interesting updates and feature improvements as a result. It shrinks the window for Rivian and Ford to make their mark, but there will still be plenty of time for these companies to compete before the Cybertruck dominates the scene.
Tesla has yet to provide an updated timeline for when the Cybertruck will be available, but we hope to have more information soon. In the meantime, fans of the electric truck will just have to keep their fingers crossed and hold out just a bit longer.
