Capcom’s major Street Fighter 5 tournament ditches PlayStation consoles for PCs

If you’re a fan of the ever popular Street Fighter series, then you know that Capcom has recently been making major changes to their gaming tournaments. At this year’s Evo Japan tournament, the company officially announced that it will no longer be running Street Fighter V on a PlayStation console. Instead, the game will now be played on PCs.

This is sure to be a big change for the tournament and has been met with both positive and negative reactions from fans. Some are excited about the new challenge that comes with playing on a PC, while others are disappointed at the idea of losing the joysticks and buttons which add to the experience of playing on PlayStation.

Regardless of which side of the fence you land on, there is no question that this move by Capcom is a significant one. They’ve been running Street Fighter tournaments on PlayStation consoles for years, and it’s clear that they’re now trying something new.

So why the change? Well, there could be a number of reasons why. It’s possible that they want to attract more players to the tournament, as well as give the active players a new challenge. PCs are also simpler to maintain and generally easier to upgrade, meaning the tournament can keep growing and evolving in the future.

Perhaps the most likely answer is that this move is part of Capcom’s attempt to expand their esports audience. PC gaming has become increasingly popular in recent years, and a PC-based tournament may be able to attract a new type of player who otherwise would stick with more console-focused games.

No matter what the reasons for the change are, there’s no denying that the move is bold. It’s a big change for the tournament and for the franchise as a whole, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It’s also worth noting that this isn’t the first time Capcom has made a significant move to try and bolster their esports presence. Last year they announced a major Street Fighter V tournament in Esports Stadium Arlington, another move in the same direction.

Overall, this is an intriguing development in the world of esports and Street Fighter specifically. It will be interesting to see how the tournament pans out and how Capcom adjusts to the new environment, but regardless this should be a great event for the fans.
