Ubisoft is making a bold move to compete with Activision’s popular battle royale title, Call of Duty: Warzone. With the latest installment of Far Cry, they are introducing a brand new battle royale mode that draws natural parallels to Warzone.
In the Far Cry 6 battle royale mode, players will start by parachuting into a massive map with up to 20 other players. Players can control various vehicles, including boats and helicopters, to travel across the map in search of weapons and other resources. As players take out enemies, they earn experience points and upgrade their abilities, allowing them to take on tougher enemies and better loot. Airdrops will also appear at random, providing valuable upgrades to players who manage to get to them.
The similarities to Warzone continue with two distinct game modes. The first mode is Firefight, which puts two teams of four players against each other in a battle to take out as many opponents as possible. The second mode is Rakyat Rumble, which is a team-versus-team 10v10 game mode set on a much smaller map.
While Far Cry 6’s battle royale mode may not be exactly the same as Warzone, it certainly feels like Ubisoft is taking the time and effort to put something unique and fun into the mix. Their effort could pay off, as Far Cry has a loyal following of fans who may be willing to give the battle royale mode a chance. At the very least, it’s exciting to see a developer looking to expand the genre in a creative new way.
