The Resident Evil 4 remake, which is slated for release in 2021, is getting a lot of hype from the gaming community, but it’s also dropping a feature that has been a staple of the original game. The remake of the 2004 classic will not feature the iconic merchant system, a feature that has been an integral part of the Resident Evil 4 experience since its initial release.
Merchants in Resident Evil 4 were living characters equipped to provide ammunition, healing supplies, and other items to the player. The merchant system was initially introduced as a way to break up the game’s intense combat scenarios by providing a brief respite and something for viewers to look forward to, as the player could purchase new weapons or items to help in their journey.
Though the player can still find and purchase items from the various merchants in the world, the iconic merchant system from the original has been removed. Instead of buying items from a designated merchant, the player now finds weapons and items lying scattered in the environment. While this gives the player more freedom of choice and greater exploration opportunities, it also takes away the sense of purpose and connection that the merchants gave to the original game.
Despite the lack of merchants, there are still reasons to be excited about Resident Evil 4 remake. It has been updated with a modern visual style, tight controls, and dynamic enemy AI, and offers a large selection of weapons and items to play with. It also features updated versions of the game’s puzzles and challenges, as well as the return of the beloved Mercenaries mode.
Though Resident Evil 4 remake won’t feature the merchant system that die-hard fans have grown to love, there’s still a lot to look forward to and the game is sure to be a hit when it releases in 2021.
