Mozilla, the open source technology company behind the popular Firefox web browser, has announced ambitious plans to revamp its Thunderbird email client.
The company announced that it plans to launch a ground-up redesigned user interface for Thunderbird this July. The goals of the redesign are to make Thunderbird easier to use, faster, and more intuitive for users.
Mozilla has been working on the project for the last several months and wanted to give a sneak peak of what they’ve been doing at the recent All Hands virtual event. At the event, they presented a screenshot of the new Thunderbird user interface and a few design mockups.
The new design emphasizes speed and simplicity. The new user interface is clean and streamlined with fewer tabs, widgets, and other UI elements than in the current version. The team has also improved the search, messaging, and account creation processes.
The new design also integrates better with other Mozilla products, enabling web users to manage email accounts on a single sign-on platform. The new platform will also enable the use of multiple accounts and unified inboxes, making it easier for users to manage all their accounts from the same Thunderbird interface.
The team has also improved the contact management features, allowing users to easily manage contacts and emails, and the integration with other Messaging and Productivity tools like MxTF and OBM.
All the changes the team has designed are expected to be available in the next version of Thunderbird, which is scheduled to be released this summer. With the major ui redesign, users can look forward to a faster and easier experience, making their email tasks all the more efficient.
