Stellantis’ Ram is workshopping a mid-sized EV pickup truck

As the electric vehicle (EV) revolution continues to pick up steam, auto-manufacturers are actively preparing for the new frontier of battery-powered cars and trucks. In this vein, Stellantis, the automotive mega-company formed by the merger of PSA Groupe and FCA, is currently exploring the idea of a mid-sized electric pickup truck.

The pickup in question would serve as a response to both a changing market and the challenge posed to automakers by Tesla. With the increasing popularity of EVs, Stellantis believes it will need to offer customers a competitive, eco-conscious solution to the traditional gas-powered pickup truck in order to remain afloat in the coming decades. The company is currently workshopping the idea in order to find the most efficient and profitable way for the project to move forward.

Of course, Stellantis isn’t the only major automaker looking to enter the EV pickup truck market. Companies such as Ford and General Motors are also gunning for a piece of the pie. GM recently announced that it plans to roll out its GMC Hummer EV by 2021 and Ford is continuing to develop its recently unveiled Electric F-150.

That being said, none of these companies have yet to establish a mid-sized electric pickup truck. This gives Stellantis a real advantage. If the company is able to successfully launch a competitive, mid-sized EV pickup truck, it could become a major player in the electric truck market.

The Stellantis EV pickup project is still only a concept at present, but the company and its highly prepared team of engineers and designers are confident they can pull it off. The project could be a mark-breaking success and a real game-changer for the auto industry. Only time will tell if Stellantis is able to deliver the goods.
