As reports of unidentified flying objects and aliens emerge, many people are beginning to take a second look at the science-fiction obsessed and often ridiculed world of UFOlogy. With recent media attention to the mysterious objects sightings in the skies across America and around the world, lawmakers are beginning to take notice and consider their implications and potential impact on the homeland.
The phenomenon is nothing new, with sightings reported as far back as the 1920’s, but the recent intensity has lured the attention and suspicions of the public and local legislature alike. California congressman, Mark DeSaulnier was particularly vocal on the matter, commenting on the sightings during the House floor debate, “We’re seeing something that the government wasn’t expecting us to see, which could be extraterrestrial.”
The US Senate Intelligence Committee has formed a task force to investigate the recent epidemic of unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings. The task force aims to review all available evidence and provide a classified report to the Senate. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has been assigned Chairperson of the task force and his stance is clear, “There are now multiple [UFO] sightings from different parts of the world by credible people and it would be irresponsible of the government to ignore these sightings”.
Although the task force will take much time for their final report, US legislators are offering advisory warnings to the public in the meantime. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) was one of many legislators that has made public statements urging citizens, “… lock your doors and keep your pets inside”. Tillis seems to lean toward a more conservative approach to the UFO epidemic, maintaining a sense of urgency in his comments, “We’ve known for some time that the government’s secrecy regarding UFOs has been concerning. We’re now at a point where we must accept the possibility that these unexplained phenomena could pose a threat to our national security and public safety.”
The formation of the task force and its subsequent outcome signals that US lawmakers are taking a serious stance on the UFO epidemic. Although there is much speculation as to the true cause and purpose of the mysterious objects, one thing is certain: US legislators are prepared to take action and enact measures for the safety and security of citizens nationwide.
