With all the bustle of the holiday season, it’s easy for some price changes to slip under the radar. However, recently some savvy customers noticed that Sonos quietly raised the prices of its Beam and Sub products by $50. Sonos are known for their high-performance, but it seems the company hasn’t been able to avoid the market forces pushing on the tech industry.
Since first launching the Sonos Beam and Sonos Sub in 2018, the company has seen consistent demand and customer loyalty. In July, it announced its biggest Sonos Move, a powerful wireless speaker that’s designed to go outside. But Sonos also knows it’s not immune to the market forces that affect the tech industry, and has consequently decided to tweak its pricing.
In November, Sonos quietly increased the price of its Beam and Sub by $50, to $399/£399 and $699/£699 respectively. The company has said that it’s been forced to raise pricing on these products in order to stay competitive in the market, citing some unspecified “cost increases.” These cost increases could potentially include the raising of components, or tariffs.
Unlike many of its competitors, Sonos has always kept its pricing honest and reasonable, so the recent $50 price increases won’t be causing too much disruption. Still, with the holiday sales just around the corner, some customers may now be holding out to see if better deals emerge.
Overall, Sonos has been able to keep its prices relatively low in an industry where prices are steadily climbing, and the recent $50 tweak shouldn’t impact purchasers of its Beam or Sub too harshly. Although this news may be unwelcome for those with their eyes on the just-launched Sonos Move, it does suggest that Sonos remains dedicated to pricing its products reasonably.
