Nier: Automata, the popular and award-winning video game from game developer Square Enix, is coming to Crunchyroll in the form of an anime series in January 2021. Fans of the game will be thrilled to finally see the characters and events from the game play out in animated form.
The anime series, based on the game, is being produced by Yaoyorozu, with anime director Takaharu Ozaki leading the creative direction. The animation and art style will be faithful to the game, with the team behind the anime carefully studying and adhering to the original game’s aesthetics. The Nier: Automata anime series will follow the story of androids 2B, 9S, and A2, and their battles to reclaim the machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful weapons known as machine lifeforms. These androids are joined by support characters such as the defence force Pascal, who fight the cruel machines to protect humanity, who are trying to reclaim their home.
The game’s award-winning music composed by Keiichi Okabe will be featured in the anime as well. The series’ soundtrack also has music from Artists such as Vocaloid singer-songwriter Chelly and J-Pop group 9nine. The series’ opining and ending music will come from J-pop artists Yohio and Sariyajin respectively.
September 1st marked the release of the Nier: Automata anime’s first trailer. The trailer gave viewers a taste of the surreal and action-packed world the series will explore, and a hint of the anime’s stirring soundtrack.
