Research conducted by the McAfee security firm has shown that the Golden State is the most targeted state, accounting for 18.2% of all cyber-attacks in the US. The second most hacked state in America is Virginia. Virginia is home to major government bodies such as the Central Intelligence Agency and the Pentagon, making it a prime target for cyber criminals. Reports have shown that Virginia has seen a 16.7% of all cyber-attacks in the US in the second quarter of 2021.
Other states in the top ten list include Florida, New York, Texas, and Georgia.The research conducted by the McAfee security firm further states that Florida has seen 13.9% of all cyber-attacks, while New York and Texas have experienced 11.5% and 11.4% of all attacks respectively. Georgia has seen a total of 9.5%.
Rounding out the top ten are Washington, Illinois, North Carolina, and Ohio. Of these states, Washington has seen the highest rate of attacks with 8.8%, while Illinois and North Carolina have both seen 8.2%. Ohio, on the other hand, has been hacked 8.1% of the time.
