It looks as if the Camera and Video Technology powerhouse, HTC, are making a move in 2020 that is set to shake up the Virtual Reality (VR) market. This week, it was announced that at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January of 2020, HTC will present its new lightweight Meta Quest competitor. This is set to revolutionize how we experience augmented and virtual reality.
It appears that this lightweight Meta Quest competitor, currently being referred to as Project Mirage, has some impressive specs. Reports suggest it will feature four powerful cameras which will provide a seamless and immersive experience when users are navigating virtual and augmented reality. HTC are also claiming it will have great optics, keeping inline with the current standard of the Meta Quest.
Project Mirage will be wireless, further allowing users to exist in a more realistic environment, free from technical restraints. It also has a battery life of four hours, which will make it a more than viable alternative to the Meta Quest. This will be very attractive to gamers and developers who need a more prolonged immersive experience.
It is also reported that Project Mirage will feature 6 degrees of freedom for enhanced motion tracking. This always creates a more realistic experience for users, as it allows for realistic movement in both physical and virtual environments.
HTC have also revealed that the headset will be compatible with a range of devices, possibly including mobile phones, PC’s and laptops. This is certainly a great development, and should make it much more accessible to consumers.
This is a hugely exciting step for HTC and the VR industry as a whole. By announcing a lightweight Meta Quest competitor at CES, HTC might be able to bring VR to the mainstream and make VR accessible to everyone.
