Rocket Lab, the pioneering aerospace company, has announced a major supplier deal with an unidentified mega constellation customer.
The firm, which specializes in small and medium-sized payloads, has announced the multimillion-dollar agreement which will see them supply parts and services to the mystery customer. The collaboration is expected to greatly increase their customer base, as mega constellations are integral to both integrated satellite communications, as well as predictive global connectivity.
The constellation in question is said to have more than 400 satellites and is aimed at providing global data and communications for a variety of sectors. The sustainable satellite constellation is expected to have a wide range of possible applications, from low-latency cloud gaming to internet-based TV services.
The supplier deal with Rocket Lab means the customer will utilize their capabilities to develop components for the satellites, as well as launch and operations support services. This includes payload integration and other post-launch services.
The deal highlights the potential of mega constellations, which are seen as a key component of global space infrastructure. The potential of such systemshas continually increased as advances in space technology and decreasing costs mean larger systems can be deployed.
Rocket Lab’s CEO, Peter Beck, is optimistic about the possibilities of the agreement, stating “The sheer scale of these mega constellations coupled with their global reach means a multitude of opportunities for exponentially increased services for the world”.
Rocket Lab’s new deal is indicative of a future in which the space industry is larger and more diverse than ever. A plethora of solutions and opportunities are being created globally to facilitate the use of satellites and other space technologies. As such, collaboration and deals such as this one may prove beneficial for both customers and firms alike.
