Chad Stahelski on Returning to The Matrix

When Chad Stahelski began his directing career, he couldn’t have known he’d be returning to the world of The Matrix just one short decade later. With the release of The Matrix 4, Stahelski finds himself once again firmly within the iconic universe.

Stahelski began his film career as a stunt coordinator and performer on films like The Crow, Point Break, and the original Matrix films, but it wasn’t until he and his fellow stuntman David Leitch directed John Wick that audiences began to take notice of his skills behind the camera. And while Stahelski is no longer joining Keanu Reeves in the action, he is serving as a producer on Matrix 4 and is eager to return to the seminal films that launched his film career.

“It’s always an honor to be asked to join The Matrix,” Stahelski said in an interview. “It’s one of the most beloved films of all time, and I’m thrilled to be part of it again.” Stahelski was tight-lipped about what audiences can expect from the return to the Matrix universe, butdid confirm that the production team has been “speaking to all the original Matrix players” to ensure that the film feels familiar and true to form.

Stahelski also revealed that The Matrix 4 will be shot in a more traditional manner rather than employing any of the advanced cinematography technologies that were used in his successful John Wick franchise. While Stahelski still looks to use special effects and cutting-edge technology, he is simply looking for variety and excitement in the new Matrix installment. “You want to both honor the original films but also make a movie that excites the audience in its own right, so it is sort of a balancing act,” he explained.

The Matrix 4 is sure to be one of 2021’s biggest releases, and fans will be waiting with bated breath to see Stahelski’s vision for the iconic universe. With Stahelski now firmly attached to the platform, audiences will have even more to cheer for.
