My Friend Superman Still Exists, and It’s Coming to Adult Swim

If you grew up in the 90s like I did, then you were probably a fan of the cult Kids WB classic, Superman: The Animated Series. For many of us, this show was a major part of our childhood and we loved it for its humor, its heart, and of course the character of Superman himself. That’s why I’m so excited to tell you all that the Man of Steel is returning to the small screen, and this time, it’s all grown up.

Yes, it’s true, Superman: The Animated Series is coming to Adult Swim. For those who are unfamiliar, Adult Swim is the late-night programming block on the Cartoon Network, where anime and edgier cartoons are aired for a more mature audience. It’s the perfect home for Superman, a character who has evolved from being a bright, upstanding boy scout to a more mature and complex figure.

The show will be executive produced by the same team behind Justice League Unlimited, Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett. Those familiar with the DC Animated Universe (DCAU) are sure to be excited, as Timm and Burnett were two of the main architects behind the beloved DCAU franchise. They were also behind Justice League Unlimited, which featured Superman prominently and was lauded by critics and fans alike.

The series has yet to be officially greenlit by Adult Swim, so there is no telling when it will be premiering. However, it’s safe to assume that it won’t be long until we’re reunited with the Man of Steel.

I always thought that Superman: The Animated Series worked so well due to its perfect blend of humor and adventure, and I’m sure the new Adult Swim series will follow the same formula. It’s great to see this beloved character returning to the small screen, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Timm and Burnett have in store for us.

Superman may not be the same as he was back in our childhood, but I’m confident that my friend Superman still exists, and that he’s coming to Adult Swim.
