Nearby Share is a new file-sharing feature that makes it extremely easy to share files with people who are near you. The feature is available on most Windows 10 PCs, and the setup process is simple. Here’s how to use Nearby Share on your Windows PC.
1. Make sure Nearby Sharing is turned on in Windows Settings. Head over to the System tab in Windows 10’s Settings app and select “Shared Experiences.” Make sure that the Nearby Sharing switch is in the “On” position.
2. Find a device to send files to. The other device must also have Nearby Sharing turned on, and must be in close proximity to your own device. Your PC will display a list of nearby devices to which you can send the file.
3. Select the file you want to send. Right-click on the file of your choosing, then select “Nearby Sharing.” A dialog box will appear, allowing you to choose which device you wish to share with.
4. Accept or reject the incoming file. When someone uses Nearby Share to send you a file, a notification will pop up asking you to accept or reject it. Keep in mind that, because Nearby Sharing is designed for short-range file transfers, all data transfers are encrypted.
5. Continue the file transfer. When you accept the incoming file, it will begin to download to your PC. If you need to cancel the transfer, simply close the prompt window; your PC will no longer receive the file.
Using Nearby Share is a great way to quickly share files with people who are in your immediate vicinity. The ability to transfer files quickly, securely, and with minimal effort is a great addition to Windows 10, and it’s sure to come in handy in many situations.
