As one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars saga, Wedge Antilles has long been a fan favorite since his first appearance in A New Hope. In the years since, Wedge has gone on to appear in multiple films and TV series and become an integral part of the Star Wars universe.
In 2020, Wedge made an unexpected appearance in the Star Wars webcomic Star Wars: Visions volume 2. The story revolves around a group of Force-sensitive children on a mysterious planet in the Unknown Regions, and involves Wedge in a pivotal role. So, how did Wedge end up in this story?
The answer lies in Wedge’s backstory. Although he was born on Corellia, Wedge’s flying skills have been acknowledged by the Rebellion, who have sent him to investigate certain aspects of the Unknown Regions. One such mission involves searching for a lost squadron of TIE fighters, which he eventually discovers.
At this point in the story, Wedge realizes that he is dealing with something much more dangerous than an Imperial squadron of fighters—the fate of the entire galaxy hangs in the balance. As he makes his way deeper into the unknown, he meets the Force-sensitive children and their teacher, who are attempting to discover the secrets of the planet’s mysterious energy.
It is in this moment that Wedge joins forces with the Force users and uses his knowledge of the Unknown Regions to help them defeat the unknown enemy. In the end, Wedge helps the children defeat their own destiny, and they are eventually led to safety.
And in the end, Wedge is able to redeem himself in his own eyes, as he helps these children save the galaxy from certain doom. His actions in Star Wars: Visions volume 2 demonstrate why he’s become such an important part of the Star Wars universe, and why he continues to be an integral part of the franchise.
