Passwords have been a part of our daily lives for a long time now, but luckily, that’s about to change. Google recently announced the launch of its new password-free feature for Chrome, Passkeys. This feature allows users to access their accounts and websites without having to remember a long, complex password every time.
This new feature makes use of the FIDO open-source security architecture. It uses a method called public-key cryptography to generate an encrypted key for each website. This key can be used to unlock all the user’s accounts and websites, allowing them to access the necessary information without having to remember any passwords.
Passkeys are also said to be more secure than traditional passwords. There is no need to transmit anything like a password, as the crypto-key is generated locally and is never sent to Google or any third party.
The feature is currently only available to Chrome users. However, Google has also stated that they are working to make it available to users of other browsers as well.
Passkeys can be a great way to make your online data more secure, but it’s important to make sure you always remember your Passkeys. Without the Passkey, you won’t be able to access any of your accounts or websites, as the key is generated locally and is never stored anywhere.
So if you are a Chrome user, it’s time to ditch the passwords and start using Passkeys for your online accounts!
