Dispatch from Bangalore, end of 2022 edition

India is a land of promise, a beacon of technological innovation and a rising economic superpower. But what of Bangalore, India’s tech capital, at the end of 2022?

The city has seen tremendous growth these past four years, with numerous futuristic projects – from artifical intelligence and blockchain technology to driverless cars and more – springing up throughout the metropolitan area. With such new technology and projects, citizens of the city have experienced a love affair with innovation and technology.

Laws have also changed significantly since 2018, when the city earned its Smart City status designation. Connectivity increased, having gone from limited and slow in 2018 to 5G bandwidth today. Crowdsourced transportation has improved immensly, thanks to the introduction of electric scooters and autonomous vehicles.

Bangalore has grown exponentially as a global business hub, becoming a heavy-hitter in the IT sector. Major MNCs like Amazon, Microsoft, and Accenture have set up operations in the city, leading to an influx of jobs, capital, and talent.

Additionally, Bangalore has focused on environmental protection and sustainability, tackling extreme air and water pollution issues. Currently, the city is in the midst of transitioning from car-dominated streets to pedestrian-friendly, eco-friendly ones – a move anticipated to reduce air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions.

By the end of 2022, Bangalore is definitely a changed city. One that has experienced a technological, economic, and socio-cultural boom – but more importantly, one that has worked hard to protect its environment, its citizens and its economy.
