Windows 10 users will get to use Copilot AI after all – but with a big drawback

Windows 10 users who were disappointed to hear that Copilot AI was no longer available on the platform now have another option – albeit a limited one. Microsoft has announced that the personal assistant will be available again for Windows 10 users, but with a big drawback.

Copilot AI is a virtual assistant that uses artificial intelligence to provide automated help and support, as well as a variety of other features such as searching, voice recognition, and more. Microsoft took the assistant offline in December 2020 due to the expiration of a contract between the company and Conversational AI, the technology company behind Copilot AI.

Now, Microsoft has announced that the assistant will be available again for Windows 10 users, but with a big caveat. Although it will be possible to use the assistant, it will only be available in limited form. It will be unable to access certain functions that were available before, such as its ability to search the internet, play music, and control smart home devices. In addition, the updated version of the assistant will be missing features such as linking accounts and setting reminders.

The reason for these limitations is that Microsoft is no longer in a contractual agreement with Conversational AI, and thus cannot make use of the full features of Copilot AI. This means that if Windows 10 users want to take advantage of the assistant, they will have to settle for a limited version.

Despite the drawbacks, it is encouraging to see that Microsoft is bringing Copilot AI back to Windows 10 users. Many of the features that have been removed are still available from other sources, and the assistant still provides a useful starting point for many users. It remains to be seen whether the limited version will be enough to satisfy existing users or to attract new ones, but for now Windows 10 users do at least have the option to use the assistant again.
