Unlike cookie-cutter templates, ChatGPT provides applicants with the ability to create their own applications tailored to their individual interests, strengths and goals. This innovative tool takes the concept of a “personal statement” to the next level, helping law school hopefuls explore their interests and show admissions committees why they would make a unique and valuable contribution to the student body.
ChatGPT is designed to help law school hopefuls “tell their story in a different way,” according to Lawrence Rauchwerger, the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law’s director of admissions. “It’s a much more dynamic way of putting together an application. With ChatGPT, students can create an application that is truly their own and reflective of their experiences.”
ChatGPT works by taking a series of prompts that ask applicants about their background, motivations, and potential contributions and then using artificial intelligence to generate options for essay answers. Students are able to customize their responses for each question, allowing them to showcase their strengths and impress admissions committees.
The tool has been embraced by the James E. Rogers College of Law, with over 60 percent of applicants opting to use it this year. “We’re excited to include ChatGPT as an option for our applicants,” says Rauchwerger. “It allows us to take a closer look at the individual and get a better sense of their story and experience.”
