Recently, rumors have been spreading that Fable 4, the fourth installment of one of the most beloved gaming franchises, is on the way. With E3 2019 right around the corner, fans of the franchise have been clamoring for any new information about Fable 4. As of yet, however, there have been few concrete answers about the potential fourth game.
The closest to actual confirmation regarding Fable 4 came from Xbox executive Aaron Greenberg. During an interview, he brought up the concept of the potential of a Fable game in the future, but stopped short of anything concrete. As such, many have speculated that he was strongly implying an announcement in the near future, possibly at E3.
Aside from these vague allusions, there have been few other corroborating reports or leaks about Fable 4. Unfortunately, since both Microsoft and Lionhead Studios have been quiet on the matter, much of the information floating around has been conjecture or theory.
Arguably the most likely candidate to develop Fable 4 would be Playground Games. This is due to their previous experience developing the Forza Horizon series and their past partnership with Microsoft. The rumor is further bolstered by the studio’s recent job listing, which calls for designers with previous experience working on RPG titles.
Currently, Fable 4’s game mechanics and plot are as much of a mystery as the game’s existence itself. While some have speculated that the game may incorporate elements from the RPG genre, nothing has been confirmed yet. Similarly, its setting is a complete unknown. There has been some speculation that Fable 4 may take place in a post-apocalyptic world, but it’s unclear whether this is simply conjecture or based on legitimate sources.
All in all, it appears that Fable 4 is still a few years away from being released. If Microsoft does in fact announce the game at E3, though, there may be a slim chance that it may arrive as early as 2020. Until then, all we can do is wait and speculate about Fable 4’s plot and mechanical features.
