In recent months, YouTube has been making significant changes to its platform in an effort to compete with TikTok. As part of its attempt to challenge the popular short-form video platform, YouTube has recently introduced a new feature, YouTube Shorts, complete with expanded creation tools.
YouTube Shorts enables users to create videos up to 15 seconds in length with the use of their smartphones. Additionally, the feature serves as a rival to TikTok’s popular Reels section which also creates short-form videos. In order to better compete with the functions of Reels and TikTok, YouTube has announced the addition of two new tools: Collab and Q&A.
Collab allows users to join forces with other content creators in order to make a new video together. The video creation feature is designed to make collaboration easier and to result in complementary videos. There are still many details to be executed before Collaboration becomes available, however, YouTube has expressed excitement for the upcoming feature.
The second newly added feature, Q&A, allows users to append answers to frequently asked questions to their video. Viewers can access the Q&A tab in order to read responses to questions posed by the creator. This new feature serves to enhance the production of educational content, such as tutorials.
Although it is still too early to tell if YouTube Shorts will be able to conquer the likes of TikTok, the new tools are sure to invite many new content creators into the YouTube world. With Collab and Q&A, the platform’s appeal is definitely growing.
