Spyware maker LetMeSpy shuts down after hacker deletes server data

Spyware maker LetMeSpy – a major developer of online surveillance and tracking software – has closed its doors after alleged hacker activity wiped out server data and destroyed customer databases.

On March 11, LetMeSpy abruptly announced on its website that it was “shutting down operations due to unforeseen hacker activity” and asked customers to “submit a request for refund” due to a “system failure”.

The company – which had created software to allow its customers to silently monitor and track their targets’ computers, smartphones, and other devices – did not reveal any details about the attack, making it difficult to determine why or how the data was lost.

However, experts believe that the incident was likely the result of an Internet attack called data wiping, which is designed to erase data from computer systems without leaving any trace. Such attacks are popular among malicious hackers who wish to destroy evidence of their illicit activities, including stealing sensitive data or financial information.
