Watering the lawn may finally be getting smarter

These days, with an increased awareness of the environment and the advantage of modern technology, gardening and the mowing of grass is becoming more efficient and effective. In the past, watering the lawn was treated as a chore that needed to be done in regular intervals, often resulting in over or under watering.

However, with the advancement of technology, watering your lawn can now be smarter than ever. Smart sprinklers can detect weather conditions, deliver the right amount of water to your lawn and even avoid certain areas of the lawn if needed.

Smart sprinklers use sensors that can measure moisture levels, humidity and temperature in the soil and surrounding air. This will inform the irrigation system when to turn on and off, ensuring that the lawn and plants receive the optimal amount of water, not too much and not too little.

Additionally, many systems will calculate the water usage for you, meaning that you can be informed if you’re over-watering and wasting precious resources. This will give you the opportunity to adjust the water intake and ultimately help you save money on your water bill.

Describing a ‘smart lawn’, many homes now have automated mowers that detect when the grass needs a trim and then automatically mow without any manual operation. This means that they won’t over or under mow the lawn and can have selective cutting.

So, as you can see watering the lawn is getting smarter and with this technology helping us to save time, water and money – it’s no wonder that more and more homeowners are making the switch.
