This week in AI: Experiments, retirements, and extinction events

This week was an exciting week for fans of artificial intelligence (AI). Researchers around the world conducted experiments, AI systems retired, and the first-ever extinction event launched in an AI environment.

Starting off with the experiments, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology created an AI system that can generate music. The system was programmed using over 2,000 pieces of classical music from Bach, and it can generate an infinite number of original musical compositions. The experiment shows that artificial intelligence can be used in unique and creative ways.

Next, we saw an AI retirement. A team at the University of Toronto created an AI system called “TextWorld” which is capable of playing text-based task-oriented video games. The AI system was able to beat the scores of top human players in some games, leading to its retirement. The experiment showed that an AI can master certain gaming skills, but it is still limited in other areas.

Finally, the first-ever AI extinction event occurred this week. A team at Rutgers University created an AI system that is capable of playing a game called “Idle Mastermind.” In this game, the AI is able to guess the hidden identities of different characters in the game. After playing for a certain period of time, the AI “extinguished” all of the characters, leading to the AI winning the game.

From experiments to retirements and extinction events, this week was an exciting one for AI fans around the world. AI is making significant progress and can do some incredible things. We can’t wait to see what it will accomplish next.
