Spotify has rolled out a new feature that will save you from playing the Peppa Pig songs to your metalhead friends – Content Blocking. Content Blocking allows users to block content from specific artists or genres from appearing in their playlists or recommendations.
Spotify says the feature was created in response to the overwhelming popularity of Peppa Pig, a cartoon character that has gained a devoted legion of fans online. Peppa’s songs have been continuously trending on Spotify and are a popular feature on the app. Unfortunately, they are not always what metal fans would call appropriate.
The Content Blocking feature on Spotify is easy to use – simply go to the ‘Settings’ tab and then scroll down to the ‘Content Blocking’ option. Here, you can choose to block entire genres, such as rap, pop, or children’s music, as well as specific artists, such as Peppa Pig. Spotify will then remove any tracks that contain content blocked by you from appearing in your playlists.
In addition to blocking content from the service, Spotify is also teaming up with Parents for Peace to help parents and children better understand their choices in music. Through their partnership, Parents for Peace offers a range of resources from educational materials to advice on how to talk to young children about their music consumption.
Not only is it a great tool to use with your metalhead (and non-metalhead) friends, but it’s also a great way to ensure that your children won’t be exposed to inappropriate content. With Content Blocking, you can now rest easy knowing that your next Spotify playlist will stay metal-only, Peppa Pig-free.
